day 1 | June 14, 2013

Day 1 was met with mixed weather conditions.  It would rain, then there'd be sun, then it would rain again.  But that didn't stop the cadets and staff from getting right down to business with in-processing and some drill & ceremonies.

day 2 | June 15, 2013

Day 2 started off with the opportunity to watch a Chinook land right across the street from the mess hall and unload a vehicle.  But the highlight, for some, was the obstacle course and trying to outrun the mosquitoes!

day 3 | June 16, 2013

Day 3 highlights included the virtual firing range (even senior staff got to get in some target practice!), a hands on AE class and some ultimate frisbee.

Day 4 brought to us a few special guest speakers from the Des Moines Astrological Society. Vern Naffier & Greg Woolever gave an overview of astrological history as well as a demonstration of a refracting telescope.

day 5 | June 18, 2013

Day 5 took us off base to Terra Park for an RC plan demonstration by the Des Moines Modelaires then back on base for a tour of the Gold Star Museum and guest speaker Jesse Gildea from ThinkFirst Iowa!

day 6 | June 19, 2013

Day 6 combined the challenges of teamwork and about 3 feet of water at the leadership course.  Throw in an abundance of sun plus more great Aerospace Education & Character Development classes and you've got yourself a full day!

day 7 | June 20, 2013

Day 7 and we were treated with a banquet featuring 2 Brigadier Generals, a Retired USAF Sgt, awards and really good BBQ.  All in all a great evening to celebrate a week at encapment.

Day 8 brought encampment activities to an end with pass and review, graduation and out-processing.

  • 7 Wings (Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Colorado, Florida, Kansas & Missouri) from 3 Regions (North Central Region, Rocky Mountain Region & Southeast Region) are represented at encampment this year.

  • 16 Senior Staff
    18 Cadet Staff
    30 Cadet Basics

    (15 female/49male)

  • Nearly every Cadet and Senior Member grade is represented from Cadet Airman (C/Amn) to Colonel (Col). 

    The only exception is Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/Lt Col).
